In the 11th century, Montartino was a watchtower defending the Ema valley that was the trade route for products coming from the Chianti area to Florence. As the power of Florence grew, the area around Montartino was gradually transformed into villas and farms for the nobility. During the 16th century, after centuries of improper use and neglect, Montartino obtained its current characteristics through meticulous restoration . To highlight the historical use of the buildings, the latest restoration emphasises the beautiful medieval gate and the imposing ramparts that have been kept intact over the centuries.
Today, Villa Montartino provides quality, discretion, privacy and the peacefulness of a private home , with all the standards of a luxury hotel amidst the trees of the Florentine hills, all within a short distance of the historical center of Florence. The only complaint that we have heard among otherwise perfect customer reviews is that the walk to the center of Florence is about 30 minutes. Since it is a safe walk, through the breathtaking Florentine hills, customers who choose to walk mostly enjoy the adventure. However, the hotel staff is pleased to call a taxi for you and the round trip cost of taxis should be no more than $20 ($10 each for 2 people). Facilities include: heated swimming pool, jacuzzi, steam bath, free Internet point, porters, 24 hour reception, bar with light kitchen, and private parking. Since the property contains vineyards and a winery, there is a wine tasting cellar (pictured below). A charming small chapel on property makes this an ideal spot for a Destination Wedding and honeymoon.
